MATH!!!!!

You might know by now, that chemistry involves math.  If your math skills are weak, your grade will most likely suffer.  I will show you the mathematical procedure for solving each type of problem, but I can't reteach all math skills through Algebra I.

The more you practice solving each type of problem, the better you will get.  Do all of your homework problems, even if you are sure that you know how to work them.  TO GET CREDIT FOR A PROBLEM ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN STEP BY STEP!

Homework!!!!!

I do not accept late homework.  Homework is due at the beginning of class and will be checked periodically.  It counts as 10% of your nine weeks grade.

Do NOT copy homework from others. To succeed, you must put forth effort and learn how to work all types of problems.

Expect a quiz after a homework assignment.  If you simply copy someone else's answers, you will NOT do well on the quiz!

We will follow handbook policies in this class.

  • Unauthorized cell phone usage will result in confiscation of the cell phone and an office referral.

  • You must make up all work in the # of allowed days after school.

  • If you were absent, do NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR RETURN to view your makeup work; it will be posted on GOOGLE CLASSROOM, and you can access it from anywhere on a cell phone.

  • If a test or quiz was announced (verbally or in writing) prior to your absence, you will be required to take the test if you are in class, even if you have been absent. The day before the test is devoted to review (usually), and you can review independently or check out the website.  You can also email me.

Quizzes!!!!!

Some quizzes will be announced. Others will not be announced.  You MUST keep up in Chemistry class, because the content is CUMULATIVE.  If you can't write your ABCs, you surely cannot write an essay or a research paper.  Chemistry gets harder and harder as the year progresses.  Frequent quizzes will ensure that you study, do your homework, and pay attention.

Expect FREQUENT quizzes at any time.

LABS!!!!!

Labs are a crucial component of a Chemistry course.  Labs help you make connections, put the ideas in to action, and allow you to hone your lab skills.  Take the lab experiences seriously.  Write reports as required by the teacher.  There is NO HORSEPLAY in the lab!  Points will be deducted if you do not follow safety rules (running, hitting, not wearing goggles. etc.)  Be safe in all aspects.  Work with your lab group, but do NOT copy each other's written work---make it your own. Each student turns in his/her OWN, UNIQUE lab report.
